Najee Strickland | Black Fist Series

The black fist series is a series of black fist that represents unity, love, pain, recognition, and encouragement. It also gives certain visions and visuals of growing up being black in America. One day I was sitting in our tiny one bedroom apartment, stuff everywhere. Canvas was compiled in corners & my paint and brushes were in boxes. Consider me a artistic hoarder, so I really wanted to do something meaningful, inspirational, unifying, and powerful. With all of the things going on in society and the world today and in the past, I decided to do a series of black fist. I really wanted to encourage, uplift and let people know a little about my childhood and what I seen as a child. I used fabric and other realistic material for a in depth view of my visuals. The first piece I brought to life was the black panther fist, this is also my favorite piece. It shows pain and strength. Growing up as a kid my parents didn’t tell me a lot about history. In school they always teach the norm starting off with slavery. Now, I read more than ever. A few things sparked, and now I want to share.
